Carl McLarty is an American photographer who grew up in Washington State and attended UCLA. In 2003 Carl started working as an assistant at Smashbox Studios, home of popular TV show America's Next Top Model. There he learned his craft from world famous photographers including Annie Leibovitz. Carl later worked for Getty Images in 2007 and produced photo shoots for Chinese Olympic athletes such as Yao Ming and Liu Xiang. In 2008 McLarty began to shoot photos for top creative agencies working on marketing campaigns for Hollywood movies in Los Angeles.
With production teams in Beijing, Shanghai, Los Angeles, New York, Honolulu and Phuket, Carl is mobile internationally. In addition to still photography, Carl has successfully filmed music videos including Beijing rapper Shuangzi's Don't Lie Down and short films. Carl will direct his first feature film in 2012. Carl's friendly demeanor, experience working with art directors and Chinese language abilities allow for easy communication and beautiful results.
McLarty’s images stand out from the crowd. Strong angles, delicate details, vibrant colors, high contrast, and epic horizons are elements in many of his images. McLarty possesses an arsenal of lighting techniques used to customize the look for each shoot. Carl’s images range from traditional black and white portraits to images pushing the limit of a "photograph" using complicated post production compositing multiple images.

McLarty has photographed Dr. Henry Kissinger, Oscar winning movie The Hurt Locker movie poster, and numerous actors, dancers, musicians and business leaders. Carl’s client list includes Bei Design, CCTV, Disney, Divine Rhythm Productions, Dylan George, Ford Models, Hainan Airlines, Harpers Bazaar, Miiow, Rock Forward Entertainment, Sohu, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros, and Xiamen Shine.
